Requirements Analysis and Design

The Technology Solutions Roadmap – Complex Business Requirements

The Technology Solutions Roadmap (TSR) is the first step in identifying the right solution set for your business.  However, the TSR approach should not be confused with legacy requirements gathering you may have become accustomed to.  Legacy approaches typically involve a significant amount of user interviews, documentation of Use Case Scenarios and the transition to Product Requirements, Functional Requirements and eventually a Detailed Design.

Under the legacy approach, a significant amount of time was spent up front learning what the requirements of the new system would be.  While this provides a thorough understanding of what programming or technology is required, it fails to address the changing business landscape. As a result, you may complete a successful project which is focused on business needs that are already obsolete.

In today’s dynamic business environment, we need a design/build methodology that takes into account the constant changes to your business needs.

The Njevity Technology Solutions Roadmap identifies what your requirements are today and tomorrow, and is flexible enough to change and adapt as needed.  The purpose behind the TSR is to:

  • Identify strategic areas of importance for IT Investing and Resource Allocation
  • Focus the organization on business strategies to ensure that resources only flow towards projects that advance the roadmap
  • Prioritize objectives to ensure the right things are worked on in the right order
  • Identify and document Current and Desired states, and the gaps between them
  • Define the process to bridge those gaps
  • Develop Timelines and Estimates to aid in resource planning

The TSR Approach

The TSR Approach can take weeks or months, depending on the complexity and scope of the problems we are addressing.  Further, each TSR can, and likely will, be modified to meet your unique and changing business needs.  The following is a general overview of the TSR Approach.

  • Enumerate the process areas for review
  • Meet with designated process owners to document Current and Desired States
  • Review and validate initial findings with Steering Committee
  • Prepare Deliverables
  • TSR Presentation and Review

Process Definition

The TSR Process addresses the business objectives that are critical to your success.  More importantly, our process will also identify all of the business management requirements you have.  Historically, consulting firms have focused on the areas of business they have solutions for and/or have a familiarity with.  Njevity’s TSR approach takes a complete picture of your requirements so that you have a complete roadmap at the end of the process.
