Missing Quick Links After a Dynamics GP Upgrade

A Dynamics GP customer reported users missing quick links after a Dynamics GP Upgrade on the home page. They tried to re-create them, but when they logged out and back in they were gone again. The SQL script below can be ran to allow them to recreate their home page.   -- change sa to the user ID with the home page problem declare @user char(15) set @user = 'sa' CREATE TABLE HomePage ( USERID char(15), SectionID smallint, DICTID smallint, COLNUMBR smallint, SEQNUMBR int, Visible tinyint, MetricSequence int, Selected tinyint, Mode smallint) INSERT INTO HomePage Values (@user, 1, 0, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 2, 0, 1, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 3, 0, 1, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 4, 0, 1, 3, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 5, 0, 2, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 6, 0, 2, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0), [...]

Remove Customer Experience Improvement Program Reminders from Microsoft Dynamics GP

Ever stopped long enough to look into how to Remove Customer Experience Improvement Program Reminders from Microsoft Dynamics GP?  Although they can be annoying, sometimes it's more trouble than it's worth to research how to remove them.  We will make it easy so you can stay focused on your work and get rid of these pesky interruptions. To stop those reminders, open the Microsoft Dynamics GP drop down menu in the toolbar at the top of the main GP window and click Reminders.   In the Reminders window, double-click on one of the Customer Experience Program tasks in the list.     In the Task window, click on the Name link at the bottom left of the window.     In the Customer Experience Improvement Program window, select the option that says "I don't want to join the program at this time", and click OK.     Click Save on [...]

Brooke Webb Smith Memorial Fund

One of the great things about the Dynamics GP Community is our passion.  Whether you are in sales, consulting, marketing – it doesn’t matter.  We all show the love we have for the product, the community, the customers and each other. Those not in this community have a hard time understanding that we are like family.  Many of us spend time together outside of work, we know about each other’s kids, significant others, and many times we share bonds that go even deeper.  I personally have a few in the community that understand personal struggles, family issues, personal celebrations, etc. Our Community lost one of these passionate family members.  For Njevity, and me personally,  it hit hard.  She was first and foremost a friend, one that we could share personal struggles and celebrations with, someone that I think of daily.  She will forever be someone that I miss. Dynamics CRM 2016 New Features: Navigation

New Navigation MenuWith the new menu features, you can get where you need to go faster, less scrolling and fewer clicks.  Upon clicking on a work area tile (like Sales), you get a list of all the entities/items per section in the work area. Administrators can manage the items under each work area, but you can contact Njevity to help with adding/removing work area tiles, adding/removing sections and sorting each item to a meaningful section.Recently Viewed ItemsWhen you click on the clock icon in the top navigation bar, you get a list of recently viewed entity views and a list of recently viewed records.  Use this recently viewed feature when you need to get back to a records or view you were on recently.   TabsIn CRM 2011, you could click on the left navigation to get to an area in your form.  With the 2013 release, the tab quick navigation went away.  [...]

How to fix a transaction for a future date in Dynamics GP

It is easy to make a mistake when entering the date on a transaction.  If you don’t catch it the transaction will not post and will be stuck in batch recovery. Open the Fiscal period for the year that is on the transaction. (Administration>>Setup>>Company>>Fiscal Periods. Recover the batch and post the transaction. Once it has posted you can either void the transaction or enter a credit memo.  If you issue a credit memo just be sure the date is the same as the original transaction date. Close the Fiscal period.Re-enter the transaction with the correct date.If you are familiar with SQL once you have opened the Fiscal period you can also:Create a credit memo for the same amount as the invoice, with the same accounts, so that the GL will be offset. Set the posting date to the same posting date as the invoiceApply the credit memo to the invoice.  This will offset the original [...]

The Best Computer You Should Buy to Run Dynamics GP

As a software professional, I often get asked questions about computer hardware.  Spending most of my career in the accounting software industry and being part of the team that designed and developed the product we now know as Microsoft Dynamics GP, I am commonly asked:    “What computer should I buy for my business?” For years, the unfortunate answer to this question involved a long list of hardware specifications which were difficult for most business professionals to understand and successfully purchase. Furthermore, if we were talking about a new server (or multiple servers) for an accounting system, the answer was even more complex. Fortunately, there is a better way to deal with this business challenge. One that every professional can understand: Buy any computer you want! I can assure you that accounting software solutions, such as Microsoft Dynamics GP, are built upon extremely complex technology and have significant hardware requirements. Successfully operating a system such as [...]

Dynamics GP 2010 Historical AP Aging in SRS

Dynamics GP Historical AP Aging – SRS   After spending countless hours searching the internet and finally working with Microsoft – I wanted to share my findings on how to get the Historical AP Aging report in SRS to match what the GP version of the report has for balances. You must be on GP 2010 SP 3 – anything prior to this, the Historical AP Aging has issues and will most likely not balance to your GL or the canned GP report You will notice strange characters in the ‘To’ areas of most of the parameters – you don’t need to change these.  Unless you are specifically trying to exclude something. The SRS report REQUIRES that you enter the from and to date (unlike the GP report that uses the Print/Age as of Date).  If you leave this defaulted to the dates already put in, you will get an [...]

Dynamics GP 2010 Upgrade Paths

While working on a current customer that was upgrade from Dynamics GP 10, we ran into an issue regarding the following error ‘Unable to ascertain product version information’.  We ran through our normal steps of making sure there wasn’t a straggling company in the database.  That didn’t resolve it.  After some time consuming research, we found the following table with a great table showing upgrade paths for Dynamics GP 2010, even coming from older version 9 systems. I wanted to share, as I know this is sometimes not an easy thing to find.  Hope you all find it useful as well.  Happy Upgrading! Update Paths Updating From Patch Requirement for the 2010 Update Notes 9.00.0371 (Hotfix KB 971017) Any Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 patch can be installed prior to updating Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 Service Pack Page Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 Service Pack Page 9.00.0372 (Hotfix KB 975177 & KB [...]

Dynamics GP Inventory Valuation and the Historical Inventory Reset Tool

Maintaining accurate inventory balances and costs seems to cause a lot of headaches for users. I have been working with customers who were not watching the costs they were entering inventory adjustments, thus making their valuation grossly overstated. To resolve we decided to run the Historical Inventory reset tool. This was a customer that went live on Dynamics GP 2010. While this seemed, at the time, to be a good way to get the GL in balance with their subledger, it actually caused the numbers to continue to be off. Since there was already data in the SEE30303 table (the table that the Historical Inventory Trial Balance HITB Report uses) the numbers still didn’t balance. Upon further research and evaluation, we discovered that it was actually doubling the amounts. Since we knew that this table wasn’t used elsewhere, we decided to delete everything in this table and run the tool [...]
