At Njevity, our mission is simple: to improve the life and success of our customers and partners by providing exceptional business application experiences that simplify, inform, and delight. Year-end processes like 1099 reporting don’t have to be overwhelming—and with the right approach in Dynamics GP, they can be both manageable and accurate .
This guide walks through the end-to-end 1099 process in Dynamics GP, highlighting key setup steps, review tools, and filing considerations to help you close the year with confidence.
Step 1: Set the Foundation with Proper 1099 Setup
Accurate 1099s begin with correct configuration. In Dynamics GP, the 1099 Setup window allows you to define limits for each 1099 type and box. These limits ensure transactions are evaluated correctly throughout the year, reducing surprises at year-end.
Step 2: Review Vendors with Confidence
Dynamics GP offers multiple ways to review vendor 1099 data:
- SmartList
Quickly review which vendors are flagged as 1099 vendors. - Vendor Card (Cards > Vendors > Options)
Define and review vendor specific 1099 settings. - 1099 Details Inquiry
A read-only view of 1099 amounts by vendor.- Zoom from inquiries directly into Edit 1099 Transactions
These tools are ideal for verification and review, but it’s important to understand that inquiry windows do not update underlying transactions.
Step 3: Know When (and How) to Edit 1099 Transactions
When corrections are required, Dynamics GP gives you options:
- Edit 1099 Transaction Information
- Updates actual transactions
- Changes remain even after a reconcile
- Utilities > Update 1099 Information
- Update Vendor 1099 setting as well as updating 1099 amounts for transactions.
- Updates paid transactions for the selected year
- Does not update unpaid work or open records if the vendor was not set up as a 1099 vendor at the time of posting
For advanced mass updates, PSTL: 1099 Modifier provides additional flexibility for correcting data efficiently.
Understanding which tool to use—and when—can make the difference between a smooth update and unintended data changes.
Step 4: Restrict by Calendar Year for Greater Accuracy – Edit 1099 Transactions Window
Dynamics GP includes functionality to restrict 1099 data by calendar year, allowing you to:
- Filter documents by year paid
- Run reports tied to year-specific data
This added control helps ensure you’re working with the correct reporting period, especially when corrections span multiple years.
Step 5: Print 1099s the Right Way
When it’s time to print:
- Select the correct 1099 type
- Choose the appropriate Tax ID masking option
- Use single-feed, continuous, or pre-printed forms
- Print the edit list to verify results before final printing
One important reminder: Dynamics GP does not support electronic filing of 1099s directly. Be sure you are not using a modified form version before printing.
Step 6: Plan for Electronic Filing
While GP handles preparation and printing, electronic filing requires third-party solutions. Several options are available, typically priced by form, including platforms such as Greenshades, Aatrix, and others .
Choosing the right solution depends on volume, compliance needs, and integration preferences.
