What Has Microsoft Done for You Lately Anyway?

In light of Microsoft’s announcement to end support for Dynamics GP in 2031, here’s why that doesn’t matter for GP customers.

If you’re a Dynamics GP customer, you may have heard Microsoft’s latest news: support for GP will end in 2031. Before you start stressing out, let’s take a step back and ask ourselves, What has Microsoft done for you lately anyway?

The truth is, we’ve been here before. Microsoft has a history of making these kinds of announcements, but guess what? Their products continue to serve businesses for years, even decades, after their supposed “end of life.”

Microsoft’s “End of Support” Isn’t the End of GP

Look, we’ve seen this play out before. Remember FRx? Microsoft stopped supporting FRx back in 2009, but businesses continued using it well beyond that because it worked. We still have customers that use FRx!  And what about Management Reporter? Microsoft officially pulled the plug on support for it in 2022, but how many of you are still relying on it for your financial reporting today? Exactly.

The reality is, these products don’t just stop working once Microsoft moves on. If a system continues to meet your business needs, there’s no reason to rush into a costly and disruptive transition just because Microsoft says support is ending.

Microsoft may be signaling the end of their support, but that doesn’t mean GP is going to suddenly fall apart.

The same will be true for Dynamics GP. Microsoft may be signaling the end of their support, but that doesn’t mean GP is going to suddenly fall apart. In fact, we’re confident GP will continue running smoothly for years beyond 2031.

Why Dynamics GP Customers Don’t Need to Panic

Let’s face it: GP isn’t just software. For many of you, it’s the backbone of your business—integrated into your daily operations, financials, and reporting. It’s customized, it’s reliable, and it’s deeply entrenched in the way you work.

GP’s robust ecosystem, with thousands of Independent Software Vendor (ISV) solutions, ensures that your business can still run like a well-oiled machine long after Microsoft shifts focus. And unlike newer, untested systems, GP has a track record of stability and performance that’s hard to beat.

More importantly, we’ve been through this before, and what happens every time? Customers keep using GP because it works.

Njevity Is Here for the Long Haul

At Njevity, we’re not going anywhere. Our commitment to Dynamics GP is stronger than ever, and we’ve built solutions like PowerGP Online to ensure that GP users can thrive well beyond Microsoft’s artificial deadlines. PowerGP Online brings the power and flexibility of the cloud to Dynamics GP without forcing you to start over with a new system. Plus, we’re continually enhancing it with features like PowerGP Banking and PowerGP Import, giving GP customers even more functionality.

With a strong community of users, partners, and ISVs, GP has the staying power to continue serving your business for years, even decades, after 2031.

We also know from experience that Microsoft’s announcements don’t change the fact that GP continues to meet the needs of tens of thousands of businesses. In the U.S. alone, over 40,000 companies still rely on GP every day to run their operations—and there simply aren’t enough consultants in the world to move all those businesses to another system anytime soon.

History Shows Us That GP Will Keep Going Strong

Here’s a little history lesson: remember how long businesses kept using Great Plains Accounting and Dynamics SL long after they were officially “end of life”? Many companies still run those systems today because they work, they’re stable, and they’ve been customized to meet specific business needs. Dynamics GP is no different.

At the end of the day, you need a system that works for you, not one that forces you into expensive reimplementations and headaches.

Just because Microsoft sets an end date for support doesn’t mean that businesses are going to stop using GP. Far from it. With a strong community of users, partners, and ISVs, GP has the staying power to continue serving your business for years, even decades, after 2031.

What Has Microsoft Done for You Lately?

Microsoft’s focus might be shifting to products like Dynamics 365 Business Central, but let’s be honest—BC doesn’t have the functionality to replace Dynamics GP for most mid-market businesses. It lacks the depth, flexibility, and customization that GP offers, especially when it comes to industry-specific needs like manufacturing, field service, and HR/payroll.

So, ask yourself: *What has Microsoft done for your GP business lately?* If you’re like most of us, you’ll realize that GP, along with its incredible community of developers and partners, continues to deliver.

The Bottom Line: Stick with What Works

At the end of the day, you need a system that works for you, not one that forces you into expensive reimplementations, headaches, and lost functionality. Dynamics GP has stood the test of time, and there’s no reason to believe it won’t continue to do so long after 2031.

So, don’t worry about Microsoft’s latest announcement. GP isn’t going anywhere, and neither are we. If GP is still the right fit for your business, keep it. Because if it’s not broken, why fix it?
