Last week, I published a blog questioning the value and veracity of Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud Insights feature for Dynamics GP. I made the case that if you run GP, you already have the Intelligent Cloud (even if you are running GP On Prem) and don’t need to pay $20-$70 per user per month to ‘get’ it. But because Microsoft has embedded their Intelligent Cloud Insights sign up page on the Home Page in Dynamics GP, it would be really easy for one of your users to accidentally sign your company up for an annual subscription to another ERP system that you really don’t need. What to do about this? Is there any way to HIDE the Intelligent Cloud Insights tab on the Dynamics GP Home Page? The answer is: Yes! David Musgrave, Microsoft Business Applications MVP, Managing Director of Winthrop Development Consultants and the creator of GP Power Tools has [...]
Last week I was at GPUG Summit in Phoenix with almost 2,000 Dynamics GP Users. During the GP Opening Session, Microsoft showed the Intelligent Cloud for Dynamics GP. But here’s the problem: If you are a Dynamics GP Customer, you don’t need to buy ANYTHING to get the Intelligent Cloud…You already HAVE something BETTER! Let's break this down. Here is the Microsoft Pitch: If you own Dynamics GP, you can add the NEW Intelligent Cloud feature for $20 per named user per month. Then, you install an Azure Data Factory agent on your server and configure it to push your Dynamics GP data up to the Dynamics365 Business Central cloud. Then, you can use certain generic Business Central Power BI Dashboards and have the promise of to-be-developed AI predictions. Hmmm… sounds interesting. But, dig deeper and you will find a few key pot holes in this road to the cloud. [...]

Cannot Create a New Entity in Dynamics CRM after Migrating from Dynamics CRM Online to Dynamics CRM On Premise
In Dynamics CRM 2011, after migrating an organization from Dynamics CRM Online to Dynamics CRM On Premise or Partner Hosted, you recieve a generic SQL Error when attempting to create a new entity. In researching this, we found two issues:CRM is trying to execute a stored procedure called sp_MS_marksystemobject and the CRM Application Service Account does not have execute permissions on this stored procedure.the stored procedure p_FreeProcCache does not exist. The first issue surfaced in the following error message in the CRM Trace Logs:CRM Trace Log Error:System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException(0x80131904): The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_MS_marksystemobject',database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'.You can resolve this issue by running a grant execute script on sp_MS_marksystemobject on the SQLAccessGroup login in the Master Database. Now, don't go looking for this stored procedure in the master database. You will not find it. It is actually in a hidden system database called mssqlsystemresource. However, running the grant statement in [...]
Convergence 2013 will be in New Orleans March 18-21, 2013. Hope to see you there!
Today we are wrapping up the largest Microsoft Dynamics Convergence con fence in history. Over 10,250 people joined me in Houston for the last four days to learn about the "World of Opportunity" open to Microsoft Dynamics customers. Andi it is big. There is so much going on it can be a bit overwhelming. The Expo this year was the largest expo for any Microsoft event. EVER. I spent most of my confence time this year at the expo and I think I saw only a fraction of the available solutions. The challenge this year, as I find every year, is figuring out what to do with all the great ideas that I always have aft the event. In the many years that I have been attending the Microsoft Convergence confence, I find that the only way to make progress on my list is to have each member of my team [...]
Microsoft announced moments ago at convergence in Houston that the next version of Dynamics GP will be called Dynamics GP 2013 and will release in 2012 Q4. Dynamics GP 2013 will have over 100 new features including prepayments on purchase orders and a Silverlight client that will surface up the full Dynamics GP desktop experience in a web browser...any browser. They just demoed SmartList in the browser and it looks really good. This is the dawn of a new age for Dynamics GP users. It is a good time to be a Dynamic Business!
Well here is an interesting one for you...I have been doing some report modifications for a client that is using Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Online.
