New Support Process for Exceptional Experiences!

We're excited to announce that our support ticketing system will change as of April 1, 2020! This means easier request submissions, streamlined processes, and increased heights in our quest to bring you exceptional experiences. Streamlining your support requests is easy - especially if you adopt a few new habits. By including as much information as possible in your ticket, our consultants will know how to best tackle your issue. Want to know more about what information is best? Consider a few of these questions that first pop into a consultant’s mind when you log a support request. Is this a “How To” question? Is this a question regarding new features or functionality? Is this an “It’s Broken” question? “How To” Questions The key to getting the best answer for “How To” questions is to describe your end goal in detail. Wanting to print a report of journal entries is totally different [...]

Tax Table Issue Discovered

On January 8, one of our Njevity team members, Paige Horne, discovered an issue with the tax tables for the new W-4 Higher Withholding filing statuses. In the current release, the Standard Deduction is reducing the taxable wages before the tax tables are applied for the Higher Withholding filing statuses. The Standard Deduction is actually already factored into the tax tables, so no further deductions should be needed. Currently, Federal withholding is calculating much lower for those filing statuses due to the lower taxable wages. We have reached out to Microsoft who confirmed with the IRS that a changed needs to be made. In the meantime, Microsoft has sent us a script to fix this issue, and the new tables will be fixed on the site tomorrow. After the fix, the Standard Deduction step will be removed and taxable wages will be accurate when the tax tables are applied. We [...]

Important Action Item for GPUG Summit

It’s summertime and that means this years GPUG Summit is fast approaching. All of us here at Njevtiy are excited for the Biggest GP event of the year, and if you register before June 28th you can get early bird pricing! We can’t wait to see everyone, and we know it will be another exciting and successful GPUG Summit. One of the biggest perks of GPUG is having the opportunity to sit-in on the informative and always engaging information sessions put on by some of the most talented Men and Women in the GPUG community. The sessions at GPUG in Orlando look to be as good as ever and feature a lot of important presentations on the future of Dynamics GP. Unfortunately, the venue for this year’s event is smaller compared to other years, and the rooms for speaking sessions will be considerably smaller. With that, Dynamic Communities is determining [...]

The Vendor and Customer Combiner and Modifier Utilities in GP

The Vendor Combiner/Modifier and Customer Combiner/Modifier officially became an option in the Sales and Purchasing Utilities menus with the release of GP2015.  Previously, these tools were only available in PSTL.  However, it recently became clear to me that many users are still surprised to find these options.  Whether users have just avoided going into the Utilities menus or their security settings prevented them from seeing this “new” utility, once they discover it, they almost immediately can come up with a list of customers or vendors they have been wanting to fix “forever.”  Do you have more than one Vendor IDs or Customer IDs for the same Vendor or Customer?  Have you had to remember which of the duplicates to use, inactivate one or mark one clearly as Do Not Use?  Now you can use the Combiner utility to merge a source (or the bad) Vendor/Customer into a destination Vendor/Customer (the one you want to keep).  All Work, Open and Historical transactions for the source Vendor/Customer get combined [...]

Capturing Errors with the Snipping Tool

In a perfect world, everything would function properly all the time. But we are living in a perfect world and support requests are inevitable. When submitting a support request, providing adequate information helps us resolve the issue faster and more efficiently. Oftentimes, seeing the exact message or behavior that is being shown tells us exactly what is going on, allowing us to fix it right away! Windows happens to have a handy dandy built in tool called Snipping Tool that lets you capture a specific area of your screen. Capturing errors with the Snipping Tool is the best and easiest way to make sure you are getting optimal support.  The Snipping Tool has several modes allowing you to select a rectangle area, a free form area, or an entire application window. In addition, it allows you draw directly onto the clipping to highlight or mark important areas. Using the tool is simple and [...]

User Password not recognized by Dynamics GP

We ran into an issue recently with multiple servers where a newly created user could not log into Dynamics GP on an RDP server and received the error user password not recognized by Dynamics GP. The Dynamics GP credentials worked fine on some Windows sessions, and not on others. Even when the password was blanked out in SQL using Management Studio, the user could set a password, but when attempting to log in, the user login was denied. One of the things that we found was that the Dynamics GP ODBC connection was being used as an Excel workbook data source, as well as for Dynamics GP. This seems to be a fairly common practice from the partners that I talked with. What we found was that when the user changed the default database for the ease of use of Excel, it appears to have changed the SQL connection string [...]

eConnect Integration Service Will Not Start

The installation of eConnect seems to complete correctly but eConnect Integration Service Will Not Start .   To fix this, I checked the error logs and found this in the Administrative Events: Action: Service Startup and Construction of Service Host Current User Name: Input parameters: Exception type: System.ServiceModel.AddressAccessDeniedException Exception message: HTTP could not register URL http://+:80/Microsoft/Dynamics/GP/eConnect/mex/. Your process does not have access rights to this namespace (see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70353 for details). A quick web search found Adam Liposky’s GPUG blog entry, https://www.gpug.com/blogs/adam-liposky/2014/04/28/econnect-service-starts-and-then-stops. He had three steps, only one of which is necessary. The other two are unwise (sorry Adam). Step 3: “I opened the "Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.eConnect.Service.exe.config" file in notepad, which should be located in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\eConnect 12.0\Service At the bottom of the file, locate the following setting: <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" httpGetUrl=" http://localhost/Microsoft/Dynamics/GP/eConnect/mex "/> Change the value for "httpGetEnabled" from "true" to "false". Save and close the file, then try starting the [...]
