Tax Table Issue Discovered

On January 8, one of our Njevity team members, Paige Horne, discovered an issue with the tax tables for the new W-4 Higher Withholding filing statuses. In the current release, the Standard Deduction is reducing the taxable wages before the tax tables are applied for the Higher Withholding filing statuses. The Standard Deduction is actually already factored into the tax tables, so no further deductions should be needed. Currently, Federal withholding is calculating much lower for those filing statuses due to the lower taxable wages. We have reached out to Microsoft who confirmed with the IRS that a changed needs to be made. In the meantime, Microsoft has sent us a script to fix this issue, and the new tables will be fixed on the site tomorrow. After the fix, the Standard Deduction step will be removed and taxable wages will be accurate when the tax tables are applied. We [...]

Microsoft Year End Closing and New Year Setups

It is the time of year for Microsoft Dynamics GP customers that use the Payroll module to start planning for year-end closing and new year setups.  The first step in that process is to download and install the YE update/service pack.  The update was released November 18th, so it can be installed anytime between now and year end if it is done before you run your year end wage file.  I recommend installing it earlier in the month if possible, so it doesn’t compete with vacations and the year end crunch time.  Installing the update requires that everyone is out of GP and will likely take anywhere from 1 hour to a whole day depending on how many companies and workstations you have.  We have one client with over 30 databases, so just the utilities run through takes all day on a fast server.    GP2015 customers should download KB4528415 (version 14.00.1230) and GP2016 customers will need KB4528417 (version 16.00.0814).  Be [...]

Support for Microsoft Windows 7 Is Ending – SOON!

The end-time is near for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008/R2. If you are still running these operating systems, what does this really mean and how will it impact you? The Cutoff Date The first important thing to know is your official end date is January 14thof 2020. As of January 14th, Microsoft will no longer provide updates for your system. What does it mean? GP 2019 South Carolina Withholding Tax Calculation is Incorrect

There was recently an unannounced correction to the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2019 South Carolina withholding tax.  I am not sure if the error was discovered and corrected with the Round 2 or the Round 3 payroll tax update release; I can just tell you that I discovered it with the Round 3 tax update.  A client contacted me asking why their South Carolina’s withholding tax jumped after installing the Round 3 update.  This was a particular surprise because South Carolina was not one of the states listed on the update as having been included.  The last announced update affecting South Carolina was the original 2019 Round 1 payroll tax update that all users install after the payroll year end closing.    Looking at the screen shot above, you can see that GP incorrectly included amounts in the “On Excess Over” column with the Round 1 release and corrected itself on a later release by removing these amounts.  Had GP chosen to have positive Tax Amounts, then the excess amounts [...]
