User Password not recognized by Dynamics GP

We ran into an issue recently with multiple servers where a newly created user could not log into Dynamics GP on an RDP server and received the error user password not recognized by Dynamics GP. The Dynamics GP credentials worked fine on some Windows sessions, and not on others. Even when the password was blanked out in SQL using Management Studio, the user could set a password, but when attempting to log in, the user login was denied. One of the things that we found was that the Dynamics GP ODBC connection was being used as an Excel workbook data source, as well as for Dynamics GP. This seems to be a fairly common practice from the partners that I talked with. What we found was that when the user changed the default database for the ease of use of Excel, it appears to have changed the SQL connection string [...]

eConnect Integration Service Will Not Start

The installation of eConnect seems to complete correctly but eConnect Integration Service Will Not Start .   To fix this, I checked the error logs and found this in the Administrative Events: Action: Service Startup and Construction of Service Host Current User Name: Input parameters: Exception type: System.ServiceModel.AddressAccessDeniedException Exception message: HTTP could not register URL http://+:80/Microsoft/Dynamics/GP/eConnect/mex/. Your process does not have access rights to this namespace (see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70353 for details). A quick web search found Adam Liposky’s GPUG blog entry, https://www.gpug.com/blogs/adam-liposky/2014/04/28/econnect-service-starts-and-then-stops. He had three steps, only one of which is necessary. The other two are unwise (sorry Adam). Step 3: “I opened the "Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.eConnect.Service.exe.config" file in notepad, which should be located in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\eConnect 12.0\Service At the bottom of the file, locate the following setting: <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" httpGetUrl=" http://localhost/Microsoft/Dynamics/GP/eConnect/mex "/> Change the value for "httpGetEnabled" from "true" to "false". Save and close the file, then try starting the [...]

Missing Quick Links After a Dynamics GP Upgrade

A Dynamics GP customer reported users missing quick links after a Dynamics GP Upgrade on the home page. They tried to re-create them, but when they logged out and back in they were gone again. The SQL script below can be ran to allow them to recreate their home page.   -- change sa to the user ID with the home page problem declare @user char(15) set @user = 'sa' CREATE TABLE HomePage ( USERID char(15), SectionID smallint, DICTID smallint, COLNUMBR smallint, SEQNUMBR int, Visible tinyint, MetricSequence int, Selected tinyint, Mode smallint) INSERT INTO HomePage Values (@user, 1, 0, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 2, 0, 1, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 3, 0, 1, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 4, 0, 1, 3, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 5, 0, 2, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0), (@user, 6, 0, 2, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0), [...]

Removing the Intelligent Cloud from the Dynamics GP Home Page

Last week, I published a blog questioning the value and veracity of Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud Insights feature for Dynamics GP. I made the case that if you run GP, you already have the Intelligent Cloud (even if you are running GP On Prem) and don’t need to pay $20-$70 per user per month to ‘get’ it. But because Microsoft has embedded their Intelligent Cloud Insights sign up page on the Home Page in Dynamics GP, it would be really easy for one of your users to accidentally sign your company up for an annual subscription to another ERP system that you really don’t need. What to do about this? Is there any way to HIDE the Intelligent Cloud Insights tab on the Dynamics GP Home Page? The answer is: Yes! David Musgrave, Microsoft Business Applications MVP, Managing Director of Winthrop Development Consultants and the creator of GP Power Tools has [...]

Printing to PDF on Windows 10 and 2016

Have you tried printing to PDF on Windows 10 and 2016 yet? No? Well, you are going to love this. In previous versions of Windows, Microsoft tried to push a file format called XPS. It never quite took off as PDF remained the file format of choice. Printing to PDF was never straight forward and always required the installation of additional software. The good news is that with the newest versions of Windows, Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016, Microsoft has given up on the XPS format and embraced PDF by including native print to PDF functionality! Printing to PDF has never been as simple as it is now. The new, built-in Print to PDF feature will be selectable in your printer list from any application from which you need to print. Simply select the printer Microsoft Print to PDF, click the big print button, select your destination, name the [...]

Payables Check Batch Posting Error: Invalid Column Name ‘TEN99FATCAFILEREQ’

After upgrading from GP 2013(R2) to GP 2018, the first check batch our customer tried to post failed and wend to Batch Recovery.  The error detail in the More Info section was:   A get/change operation on table 'pm1099PeriodDtl' failed accessing SQL data. Invalid column name 'TEN99FATCAFILEREQ'.   Problem:  The TEN99FATCAFILEREQ column was a new column in the PM00204 table as of GP 2015, but the upgrade did not update the table correctly.   Solution: 1.       Create a staging table in SQL that matches the PM00204 table, and copy all data from the PM00204 table to it. 2.       In GP, go to Microsoft Dynamics GP >> Maintenance >> SQL.     3.       In the dropdowns at the top, select the Database and Product: Microsoft Dynamics GP 4.       Select Purchasing 1099 Period Detail in the list pane. 5.       Check the boxes for Drop Table, Create Table, Drop Auto Procedure, and Create [...]
